My Viral Threads Post Was Removed Over a Friendly Comment

A reminder that rented platforms can turn on you fast: a brand-new dev account got traction, then was suddenly suspended.

Threads "killed" my viral post because of one simple mistake. Happy New Year to me! 🎁😅

I've been working hard to build a social presence for my projects. Five days ago, I finally launched fresh accounts on Threads and Instagram.

Things started off perfectly. Two days ago, I posted a Reel and a thread showing off my browser MMORPG. The algorithm loved it. It quickly hit 4,000 views and brought in real engagement. For a brand-new account, that felt like a huge win. 🚀

Naturally, I wanted to be a good member of the community. I scrolled through my feed, found another developer sharing their work, and left a genuine, supportive comment:

"Good job!"

The result?

The moderation bot immediately flagged me as a spammer and nuked my account.

Just like that. 🤷‍♂️

  • The viral post? Gone.
  • The account? Locked.
  • My "New Year's gift" from Meta? A ban appeal form.

There's a bitter irony in that. We spend our lives building complex algorithms, only to get taken out by a "smart" bot that can't tell the difference between a supportive peer and a spam farm.

The lesson: Building an audience from scratch is hard. Building it on "rented land" is risky. One false positive, and everything you've built can disappear in a second.
